WHAT IS ZIRCONIUM?
Zirconium metal was first discovered in 1789 by Martin Heinrich Klaproth. In 1824, it was isolated by Jons Jakob Berzelius. Known minerals are zircon (ZrSiO4) and baddeleyite (ZrO2). The synonym of Baddeleyit (from the name of Joseph Baddeley, who discovered in 1892 in Sri Lanka) is zirconium oxide, zirconium dioxide and zirconia.

Zirconia is the most studied metal oxide among the ceramics. Ceramic is the inorganic compound formed by the incorporation and solidification of one or more metal oxides into a non-metallic element. It is a material that contains different types of silicates, aluminates, water and some metal oxides and alkali and alkaline earth compounds.
For many years a metal substructure has been used for porcelain applications. The search for an alternative material to metal in porcelain substructure has been going on for years, because of the negative effects of this metal infrastructure on the gums, tooth tissue, general body health and most importantly aesthetics.
Zirconium, which was previously used successfully in other fields of medicine, was replaced with porcelain metal in dentistry and a new cycle was opened.
ZIRCONIA TECHNOLOGY
Until now, the hardness of the zirconium oxide has been very difficult to handle and so it was very difficult to use as a prosthesis. Moreover, zirconium oxide could not be used in dental applications due to its high cost of production. However, with the methods developed after the research, zirconium oxide has become available in dentistry economically. Zirconium has been used in medicine for many years. long-term studies have proven the reliability of the material. The success of the material has been proven in the field of medicine and industry. Space shuttles and orthopedic prostheses are some of the applications.
WHO WILL ZIRCONIA BE APPLIED?
Zirconium in intraabdominal applications after 2002;
* In porcelain single tooth coatings or bridge prosthesis applications
* In orthodontic treatments, brackets attached to teeth
* It can be used in ceramic form as implant and abutment material.
ADVANTAGES OF ZIRCONIA
• Does not cause any allergic reactions.
• Very good tooth and gum compatibility. Gives a normal tooth appearance even when gingival recession occurs.
• Due to its good insulation properties, it prevents the sensitization of cold or hot food and beverages.
• 3 times more durable than metal.
• Provides a natural tooth appearance thanks to its light transmittance.
Harmony
There is no allergic reaction in printed publications.
It does not interact with other materials.
Ceramic has effective insulation against hot cold effects.
Better oral hygiene is achieved by a smooth ceramic surface.
Durability
Thanks to the impressive power of zirconium oxide
3 times more durability than metal.
Aesthetic
Zirconium oxide is white. Zirconium ceram® S coating porcelain provides a more natural look to provide better color and shape compatibility to adjacent teeth.
Zirconium with very robust even in thin sections.
